Spring Break Update

Dear WV Families,

Through this unprecedented school closure, we are working hard to support the students and families that rely on us for services. We have provided over 14,000 breakfast and lunches at our Grab & Go meal sites, and are providing childcare for children of first responders, healthcare workers, and active military families. These services will continue next week during Spring Break, April 6-10.

Our staff is working hard to provide learning resources while others are working in our child care and nutrition programs. Our maintenance and technology crews are taking advantage of this time to make repairs and upgrades while maintaining and disinfecting buildings. We continue to work hard on behalf of our students and our community.

Please continue to check our website www.dhhs.wvsd.org and www.wvsd.org and our social media sites for Coronavirus information, and watch for weekly email updates from your principal.

Meals: Any child age 0-18, or who is currently enrolled in high school, can stop by one of the six distribution sites to pick up a breakfast and lunch pack between 11am and 1pm. A list of our participating schools with addresses can be found here.

Homeless support: Our HEART program is still fully operational and ready to support families who are experiencing temporary housing, housing instability, or homelessness. Contact district liaison Tania Johnson at [email protected] or call 509-340-7267.

Learning at home: The WVSD Home Learning Resources page contains information and resources for educational opportunities at home. Resources are updated weekly and provided at Grab & Go lunch sites in packet form.  Limited Home Learning materials will be available online and in packet form during Spring Break. Teachers will be transitioning to providing materials and feedback to students using online platforms such as Google Classroom, Class DoJo, SeeSaw, or Bloomz no later than Tuesday April 21st

ChromeBooks: Families who would like to check out a ChromeBook can contact our technology department at 509-344-1064. [email protected].

School playgrounds: For your safety, all play structures at schools and parks are closed at this time. Please keep all children off play equipment during the COVID-19 closure. While playfields and athletic fields are currently open, please stay at least 6 feet away from others at all times.

How to help: If you or your organization would like to support WVSD students, families or staff by donating resources or time, please call our district office at 509-924-2150.

Grades & Credits: Grades and credit accumulation will not be negatively impacted by the school closure.  More information is coming soon from the State Board of Education and will be provided soon.
