Jake Fincher

Hi, I’m Jake Fincher, the Dean of Students at Dishman Hills High School, where I have the privilege of supporting our incredible students in every aspect of their growth—academically, socially, and emotionally. My goal is to put the whole student first, ensuring that every student feels seen, supported, and set up for success. Whether that means problem-solving challenges, celebrating victories (big and small), or just being a steady presence, I’m here for it all. I also advise our LGBTQ+ club, where we build community, create a safe and welcoming space, and proudly march in Spokane’s annual Pride Parade!

Before stepping into my role as Dean, I was a science teacher here at Dishman, and before that, I worked as a field biologist. I’ve hiked countless miles chasing birds and data, but my greatest adventure has been helping students find their own paths. My love for science, the outdoors, and hands-on learning still shows up in my work—just now, it’s paired with a passion for mentoring, behavior support, and helping students thrive.  At Dishman, we’re all about making learning meaningful. That’s why I’m excited to be part of our transition to mastery-based learning, ensuring that students truly understand and apply what they learn. High expectations? Always. High support to meet them? Absolutely.  And on a personal note—when I’m not at school, you’ll probably find me outside with binoculars in hand, geeking out over birds. (Ask me about the time a rare Snowy Owl sighting made my whole month).  Dishman is an amazing place to learn, grow, and be yourself. I’m grateful to be part of this community, and I look forward to another great year!
